Kutaisi International University

IOAA 2022 Kutaisi is hosted by Kutaisi International University (KIU). The university was opened officially in 2020 and offers ultramodern infrastructure. KIU is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and offers educational programs leading to a Bachelors of Science in mathematics, computer science and management. University rector Aleksandre Tevzadze welcomes all the participants of the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics at KIU.


The Kutaisi International University Campus is located in the environmentally clean area near Kutaisi.spread out on 160 hectares of land, surrounded by a forest with a river running through it. The Campus is well connected and easy to reach. It is situated 25 km from Kutaisi International Airport and is only 3 hours’ drive from the capital city of Georgia - Tbilisi. The Kutaisi International airport is connected with major European and world destinations. Kutaisi has a bus station and a railway station with regular bus and train routes.

KIU provides comfortable and fully furnished housing for students and academic personnel. The University offers modern and state-of-the-art laboratories, student facilities, cafeterias, libraries, co-working areas, an interactive learning management system, all of which will create a forward thinking technology oriented educational ecosystem.

IYPT 2021

During its two years of existence, KIU has already hosted a major tournament in physics -IYPT in July 2021. Up to 20 foreign delegations visited The Kutaisi International University. Despite the pandemic, the tournament was held safely. Students enjoyed the campus atmosphere as well as Kutaisi. We hope that all the IOAA participants will have a memorable experience at KIU.

IOAA 2022 will be hosted in Tbilisi, Georgia by Kutaisi International University. More than 200 students from 47 countries will participate in the Olympiad.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics is an annual competition for high-school students from all over the world. Participant students must solve theoretical, data analysis and observational problems. The main goal of the IOAA is to promote interest in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
